Gaining APAC Momentum, Secureworks® Strengthens its Presence with Key Regional Senior Hires

Company appoints former National Australia Bank cyber expert Paul Byrne and channel growth specialist Catherine Naranjo to capitalise on rapid regional growth

Sydney, Australia, December 6 2022 – Secureworks® (NASDAQ: SCWX), a global leader in cybersecurity, today announced that it has appointed former National Australia Bank cybersecurity stalwart Paul Byrne as Director of New Business APJ (Asia Pacific and Japan) as well as experienced channel expert Catherine Naranjo to the role of Channels Lead. Byrne will spearhead the development of the company’s offering for the cyber insurance market, whilst Naranjo will be responsible for growing Secureworks partner network across APAC as its Partner First strategy rolls out globally.

The strategic new hires come as the cybersecurity landscape becomes more complex across the region and follows the company’s successful October launch of its Taegis™ cloud-native XDR platform in Japan. With Taegis, and Taegis ManagedXDR solutions, organisations are assured of unmatched detection, rapid response, no vendor lock-in and high ROI – benefits that collectively reduce risk exposure. As companies seek to move towards cloud platforms, and away from security estates built on point solutions, Secureworks has seen significant growth for Taegis across APAC. In their respective roles, Byrne and Naranjo will play a key role in accelerating that momentum.

Cyber insurance has become a core growth market for Secureworks and in his role Byrne will work with the cyber insurance ecosystem, customers and partners to ensure organisations have a proactive, robust defense and are well placed to defend their network from adversarial attacks. Byrne’s team will also work with companies and insurers to help navigate the insurance claims and their requirements should a business become victim to attack.

“We’ve seen insurers become more stringent over the last 12 months and this has presented some business challenges in terms of accessing the appropriate insurance coverage,” said Paul Byrne, Director New Business Development, APJ, Secureworks. “Ultimately though, companies and insurers share the same objective: to ensure a company understands and manages their cyber risk through mitigating as much as possible and insuring the residual risk. Built on over 20 years of real-world experience, Taegis has a core role to play in aligning organisational cyber investments and the requirements of cyber insurers.”

Byrne joins Secureworks from CrowdStrike where he was APJ Director Business Development – Legal and Insurance. Prior to that role, Byrne co-founded his own cyber insurance consultancy and has previously held security-focused roles at Deloitte and National Australia Bank (NAB). Whilst a NAB, Byrne over saw the development of its cybercrime capabilities, which quickly expanded to subsidiaries including uBank, nabTrade and BNZ.

Naranjo will spearhead Secureworks Partner First go-to-market approach across APAC, which will see all new business conducted in collaboration with partners in 2023. Naranjo brings over 15 years of sales experience within channel centric companies and a proven record in recruiting and enabling partners. Prior to joining Secureworks, Naranjo was dedicated to customer success at Enable Professional Services and was previously Territory Sales Manager for BitDefender. Naranjo will build Secureworks APAC channel, strategically recruiting partners that are best placed to deliver on Secureworks growth plan for its cloud-native Taegis XDR platform and ManagedXDR solutions.

“I’m delighted to have the opportunity to be part of a dynamic regional team and play an instrumental role with a company focused on the cybersecurity protection of thousands of companies around the world,” said Catherine Naranjo, Channels Lead APAC, Secureworks. “Our partner program is built for success and designed to give partners industry-leading growth and margins. We have the right platform and resources to supercharge mutual growth, whilst focusing on delivering value for our partner’s customers through our in-depth and unique understanding of the cybersecurity challenges they face not only today but also in the future.”
